Wayne Barford is a former Assistant Commissioner of the Australian Taxation Office. He has 40 years of hands-on and tax administration expertise, and extensive knowledge of both direct and indirect tax compliance and expertise in tax law and legal interpretation of tax law.
He has extensive experience in building risk frameworks, compliance strategies, compliance programs and capabilities to deliver taxpayer education and address taxpayer behaviors. He has led tax law and compliance programs, including large taxpayer compliance programs, indirect tax programs, complex tax avoidance protection measures, criminal tax investigations as well as civil and criminal tax prosecutions.
Mr. Barford has extensive experience engaging with private sector representatives on tax reform and tax compliance matters. He has represented Australia in various international forums. He has also performed tax expert evaluation activities for the Organisation for Economic Co-operation & Development (OECD).
Mr. Barford has been a featured international expert at ITIC’s annual Asia-Pacific Tax Forum meetings since 2009 and is an ITIC Ambassador and technical advisor working with tax administrations in Asia and Eurasia.
